How does Smart Response work?
Smart Response Serum helps stop skin damage before it starts by micromanaging your skin’s changing needs, so you don’t have to.
Our skin is constantly changing and sending out signals of damage.
We experience these as signals as redness, fine lines, dark spots, and dehydration. However, if we could zoom in for a closer view, we’d see that these skin concerns are actually caused by damage that happens on a microscopic level. When skin is harmed, it changes in structure and chemical make-up, either as a result of damage, or as a form of self-defence. Sadly, by the time we see the signals on our skin, the damage is done. The micro-changes that lead to skin damage take place before we’re able to see them, which means that by the time we apply our targeted skin care products, our skin may already need something different!
Smart Response Serum, however, sees what we can’t. Each of its four smart actives is targeted to recognize and address these micro-changes in the skin before they’re visible to the naked eye, effectively addressing skin’s needs in real time.
What triggers the serum’s four smart actives to start working?
Smart Response Serum’s four smart actives each respond to a different signal from the skin:
Gallic Acid from Japanese Cornelia Cherry detects the inflammatory response caused by oxidative stress. It then inhibits the production of inflammation-triggering molecules (cytokines) to soothe stressed skin.
Mannose-6-Phosphate detects low energy levels in the skin cells responsible for producing and organizing collagen fibers. Without proper energy input, cells can’t maintain proper collagen alignment. Mannose-6-Phosphate increases energy production in these cells, re-aligning collagen fibers for visibly smoother, firmer skin.
Hydrolyzed Wheat Flour, rich in Arabinoxylo-Oligosaccharides, activates when it detects an overabundance of the enzyme TRP-1, which is involved in melanin production. It then limits the activity of this enzyme in skin cells, brightening skin and reducing the appearance of dark spots.
Oligosaccharides from Hydrolyzed Beta Glucan have a very small molecular size, allowing them to penetrate deep into the stratum corneum – responding to even the smallest cracks in skin’s lipid barrier. They then stimulate production of Hyaluronic Acid, along with the repair of key proteins involucrin (responsible for barrier function) and filaggrin (which contributes to the skin’s Natural Moisturizing Factor, or NMF).

By activating key ingredients on different areas of the face in response to skin’s micro-changes, Smart Response Serum is able to work when, where, and how skin needs it for healthier skin over time addressing the micro-changes as they occur.
