The festive season is rapidly approaching us once more, we find ourselves busy rushing around trying to plan Christmas purchases, attend parties and prepare the festive food in addition to our usual daily stresses.
During this time I would like to invite you to take a couple of minutes to look back at your year. How busy have you been, what places you have visited, which people you have seen and physically kept in touch with; and how much rest and relaxation time you have given yourself on a regular weekly basis.
Rest and relaxation are always at the bottom of the to do list, however it is vital for our survival. This fast pace modern world of technology, scientific breakthroughs and everything available at the touch of a button, means that we are always available dealing with phone calls, texts, emails and social media interaction both day and night, the 9 to 5 work day no longer exists.
Running our Well-being Clinic can be very stressful and time consuming, clients contact us 24 hours a day, time out is imperative to me and my team to ensure that we remain fit and healthy to do our treatments. Sadly, this new way of living takes away our time, well-being and physical connection.
More and more we are feeling connected to millions through social networks and instant messages but the opposite is really true. We are actually becoming more detached from society, face to face, or skin to skin contact, which really matters for the health of our minds and bodies.
Our evolution has shown us that although we have adapted through the ages to the way in which we live, our core is still the same biological infrastructure and still has the same processes to hold true. Through physical touch, our bodies respond in a very interesting way. We produce powerful hormones which make us connected, content and altogether happier.
So; during the festive season, make sure you Relax, Reload and Reconnect physically with your friends and family, shake hands, hug, tap on shoulders, smile and be sociable. Step away from your smart phone and live in the moment acknowledge your feelings and take the time to unwind.
If you have not completed your festive gift shopping, maybe consider purchasing your family members or friends a gift of Time and Touch. The health benefits from human touch are incredible; whether it be holding hands with your spouse, cuddling your grandchildren or a relaxing massage or facial. Particularly massage can ease anxiety, stress, alleviate pain and boost your immune system. The more physical contact we have to our fellow man, the happier and healthier we become.
